May meetup

written by admin on April 24th, 2008 @ 02:02 PM

I think it has been just about long enough since the last one. We meet at The Werks on May 1st at 7pm: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/500754/

The last one went down really well so I want to repeat the format so please bring with you something you have been working on or a problem you want some help with and we can sit around drinking showing, talking and learning. That's all there is to it, but please make some effort to bring something with you to show or talk about.

January meetup

written by admin on January 16th, 2008 @ 06:24 PM

I finally put the January meetup in the calendar so stick 29th Jan in yours. We are now meeting up at The Werks. If you are coming please register on Upcoming so we have an idea of numbers. Maybe we should send out for pizza to go with a few beers. Abscond has volunteered to do some talking on rspec. See you there.

October meetup

written by kevthedev on October 5th, 2007 @ 03:47 PM

Hi all, kevTheDev here, I'm an extra hand to help get all us Brighton rubyists to meetup on a regular basis.

We have a meetup scheduled this month, fairly low key no speakers etc. and an open agenda. It's at The Eagle on October 23rd, details on upcoming:

http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/270719/

We will be bringing in guest speakers and the like in the future but we need to get those numbers up first, so come on down. Any ideas or suggestions about what you want to get from BRUG are most welcome - it being a community group and all.

Cheers

Kev

New Home, new date for your diary

written by admin on May 3rd, 2007 @ 11:24 PM

Thanks to the generosity of Danny Hope, we now have a new venue for Brighton Ruby: 13 Brunswick Square. The next meetup will be at 19:00 on 19th June. I am actively looking for ideas and participants to regain some of the momentum we had in the early days. Anyhow, stick the date in your diary, get your thinking cap on and watch this space as more news trickles out. I guess this means we will also be having a few sherberts afterwards at The Farm which is a pretty respectable drinking establishment. Cheers. Upcoming

Looking for a new home.

As we no longer have The Eagle to meet in, I have been looking for an alternate venue we can call home. I am sorry this has taken so long to resolve, but good venues that don't charge are hard to find. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will have something to announce.

February Meetup - Details

written by admin on January 28th, 2007 @ 02:54 PM

For the February meetup (13th @ 7:30pm, upstairs at the Eagle) we have Steve Bartholomew with "TDD - WTF" and Dan Glegg with "The loneliness of the solo Rails developer". Thanks Dan and Steve for getting me off the hook.

Just a subtle reminder for volunteers to drop by The Beast and volunteer to talk at future sessions or at least request something that would interest you.

See you next Tuesday.

Ruby Coding Dojo

written by admin on January 22nd, 2007 @ 10:40 PM

There's more Ruby goings-on in Brighton! If you haven't seen them before, the regular Coding Dojo sessions are group-programming exercises...

What: In the two hour session, up to twelve developers take turns solving a programming problem.

The rules of the Dojo are quite simple. The meeting room has one computer attached to a projector. The ringmaster explains the challenge for the week. Two programmers are selected to address the problem, one acting as the driver and one the navigator. They must speak continually about how they are solving the problem, so that the entire group follows what is being done. If the group fails to understand then the pair must pause to explain. One half of the pair is swapped out every five minutes. The language to be used and the problem to be solved vary from session to session.

Previous Dojo's have all been performed in Java, but the next one will be in Ruby (along with a short intro for the not-yet-ruby-conversant). If you're interested, sign up on that page and pop along to Future Platforms (google maps) on Wednesday 7th February at 19:00. The places are limited to 12 though, so sign up soon.

I'll look forward to seeing you there!

February 13th meet-up at 7:30pm upstairs at The Eagle.

written by admin on January 22nd, 2007 @ 12:33 AM

After the roaring success of the last event, as it was such a good venue last time I have finally got round to booking the The Eagle for round two on February 13th at 7:30pm. As I said last time, they also do food.

The usual cry for help; I would be grateful for suggestions of things people would be interested in hearing about and even more grateful for volunteers to present please drop a note on The Beast if you have any suggestions for either.

I look forward to seeing you all there again.

Brighton Ruby meetup.

written by admin on November 26th, 2006 @ 09:33 PM

Over the last couple of months I have been tracking down enough Brighton based Rubyista to make it worth starting a Ruby User Group.

Over the next few weeks I will be booking a venue somewhere in Central Brighton and posting date for our first meetup. If anybody has ideas for a venue in Central Brighton please drop a comment.

If you would like to be included in the mailing list, please use the comment form.
